No Ghana Card no December salary ridiculous and illogical – GNAT tells Controller » GhBase•com™

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department has served notice it would stop paying government workers who are not registered with the National Identification Authority (NIA).

The Department has therefore directed government workers to register and get their Ghana cards before December 1, 2021.

A statement issued by the Department announced its plans to harmonize its database to facilitate biometric and unique identification of all workers on the government payroll.

In so doing, the Department says it would be working with the NIA to achieve that. It has therefore disclosed that effective December 1, 2021, all government workers without Ghana cards would not be paid.

Reacting to this directive from the camp of Controller and Accountant General’s Department, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has described as preposterous the order that public workers who fail to register for their Ghana Cards will not receive their salaries from December 1.

In a statement, GNAT said “We wish to emphasise that it is the onus of the NIA to ensure all workers secure the NIA cards, so the NIA should liaise with the CAGD, the employers, and the workers themselves to have the cards issued them (the workers) and save them (the workers) from being held hostage, by the CAGD. We are not happy that workers would be held to ransom and harassed, as a result of the operational lapses of both the NIA and the CAGD.”

GNAT urged the CAGD to rather “help facilitate the process and stop intimidating and harassing workers.”
